The Hookup On Music Presents 31 Horror Tunes For Halloween Day 28: Bauhaus-Bela Legosi’s Dead

Released in August of 1979 as the debut single by the band Bauhaus, Bela Legosi’s Dead was a introduction to the possibilities of Goth music.  Often looked at as the very first Goth rock record with an amazing length of just under ten minutes.  Recorded in the studio in a single take during a six hour recording session is the definition of scary magic.  All four of Bauhaus’s members are songwriters on the extra scary spooky Halloween track.  Used to amazing degree in the beginning of the movie The Hunger featuring one of Bauhaus’s inspirations David Bowie.

The cover art for the single was taken from the 1926 film, The Sorrows Of Satan.  The lyrics describe the funeral for the classic actor who played Dracula many a times.  Nine Inch Nails have covered the song with Bauhaus vocalist Peter Murphy.  Sepultura and Massive Attack have also covered the track.  Honor the count by putting this at the top of your Halloween playlist.
