When I think of scary 90’s metal, the first band that comes to mind is Type O Negative.  I remember seeing their videos on Headbangers Ball.  I also remember their amazing set at Ozzfest ’97.  So when setting out to pick a track from the band to represent the scares, I had to go with my introduction to the band.  Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare All) was released in ’93 and the first thing that stood out were amazing Addams Family, The Munsters and Nosferatu references all in the lyrics.  Also the vocal delivery of Peter Steele sounds like he’s an actual vampire of the night.

The music video for Black No. 1 is a scary slice of amazing musical spookiness.  In some of the closeups in the music video, Steele’s eyes appear to be an olive green color.  Just thinking about the bass line makes me want to play it loud as I do anything of the Halloween variety.  Also unusually cool is that because of Peter Steel’s height, he plays a stand up bass as if it was a normal electric bass.  Very Scary Cool!
