June Album Releases You May Have Missed!

Actress- Statik

Darren Cunningham’s newest album as Actress is lurked and loaded with many different sounds.  Smudging light in the shadows by musical expression is what Actress does best.  Give Statik, the 11 song, 47 minute dreamlike vibes of a June release an opportunity to wow through the speakers.

Charli XCX- Brat

When requested that i give the sixth release by Charli XCX a spin, how could I hesitate.  A nice combination of electropop and dance is not something that The HOOKUP jumps at to listen.  But giving this one the opportunity through its 41 minute journey was something we don’t regret.  A perfect album to pump the vibes up no matter the mood.  There’s vulnerabilities in the lyrics and music that you’ll have to dig into to see it’s effects.

Eels- Eels Time!

Saying “The Bands Fifteenth” album out loud just sounds awesome.  This is exactly the vibes surrounding the bands twelve track, newest release.  If you are a fan of the band, this new release which battles themes like time, is exactly a good return for the band to the studio for The Eels since the pandemic.

Islands- What Occurs

The album cover for Islands What Occurs is what drew me in for the first listen.  I love staring at a bands album cover when digging ever deeper into what the album hides.  There is a slick sheen that puts the listener into a different time dimension.  On all 13 tracks and 41 minutes of What Occurs, there’s an energy in Nick Thorburn’s delivery that makes the album an undeniable visual picture book.

Pond- Stung!

The 10th album by the Australian band is very adventurous upon a first listen.  Love catching a band first on their tenth album.  Gives me lots of material to dig backwards while always awaiting something new.  It was worth taking the time to dig into the 14 track album.  A band can get both heavy and laid back is something to check out.

Crypt Sermon- The Stygian Rose

Every week my main man Andrew sends me an amazing album to dig into.  I beat him to the the punch this time with Crypt Sermon’s newest release, The Stygian Rose.  It’s a Doom Heavy display that could make for one of the better Heavy releases of the year.  It’s another album that with the cover alone can tell you in one word how this album is going to sound out of your stereo!
