Note: this article will be Survivor Series spoiler free outside of Punk’s return

This evening, November 25th, 2023, WWE had Survivor Series: War Games. It was tonight that CM Punk made his return to WWE; Punk had not been in the ring for them since 2014. Punk’s return tonight makes all the sense in the world considering that the show was in Chicago, his hometown.
The response from the crowd was nothing short of electric-Chicago loves CM Punk.
It’s no secret that Punk has had his ups and downs in his wrestling career-most recently with AEW. It’s been noted that Punk is difficult to work with and has rubbed several in the industry the wrong way. Regardless, Punk has etched himself as one of the more notable wrestlers of the 2000’s and beyond. His fiery personality and lone wolf ways make him stand out amongst others that debuted in his era, you simply cannot look away.
Circling back to Chicago, being the third largest city in the US means tends of thousands tuning in and supporting their guys. Chicago loves Chicago, through and through, and Punk is no exception to that rule. Whether you love him or hate him, CM Punk gets viewers to turn into whatever wrestling segment he is on and the sport of wrestling needs that. Punk isn’t for everyone, but what wrestler is? (Besides Cody Rhodes of course)
It will be interesting to see how Punk is integrated into a WWE that is much different from the one he left in 2014. Has he earned a Royal Rumble slot? Will he even make it to the Rumble without getting fired? Only one way to know, and I know I’ll be enjoying the ride watching the “Best in the World.”
Welcome back, CM Punk.
