A Sad Game of Ball

  1. Man In The Box- Alice In Chains: How it feels to be a White Sox fan. The lyrics, “Won’t you come and save me” have never rang so true.
  2. Friend Is A 4 Letter Word- Cake: Sounds like you are doing what’s best for everyone involved with both fans and players. “Call me morbid or absurd” as the song states.
  3. Bored- Deftones: When you start to see what the team is fielding during the game. Songs title fit’s the structure of a team not trying in this inning.
  4. Top of The World- Van Halen: The White Sox have taken the lead! They are now acting like they are on the Gravatron at the local carnival with early 90’s Van Halen blaring!
  5. One Mic- Nas: “One knee, I ducked, could it be my time is up?” Lyrics describing half of the team.
  6. Slippin’- DMX: When you felt the White Sox had no chance to win the game. Always the tune that pops up in these moments.
  7. So Lonely- The Police: When you’re watching this game with fans of the Cubs it makes you feel sad to cheer for baseball this season. Lyrics like “And I can only play that part
And sit and nurse my broken heart,” should be tattooed on most fans’ arms.
  8. Winner Takes All- The Isley Brothers: Cubs are winning this game with no hope for the Sox. Great bassline to drive home a song about winning!
  9. Big Empty- Stone Temple Pilots: As fans of the White Sox hit the parking lot in a cloud of anger and sadness, an emptiness fills on this lost season. As the song is featured in The Crow, Maybe the Sox rise tomorrow.

More of The Same Game?

  1. Theme From Shaft- Isaac Hayes: As soon as the White Sox homer was hit, that Shaft guitar rift hits. Shaft’s a “Complicated Man” and the Sox are a complicated team.
  2. Smiling Faces- Undisputed Truth: Smiling Faces don’t tell the truth. Happy for an inning, game tied the next.
  3. Bad Habit- The Offspring: The Sox have a bad habit of not scoring a lot of runs. This game is going to make me go on a tirade like the one at the end of the song!
  4. Bulletproof- La Roux: Maybe we will win this game tonight? Finally scoring lots of runs feels good.  About the only time during “Our World Series” that I felt this way.
  5. Jeopardy- Greg Kihn Band: A quick two run score put’s our last feelings in a dire position. But how could we lose.  This song provides a fun beat to feeling low!
  6. What’s Love Got to Do with It- Tina Turner: With the Sox not scoring any runs and having time to think, Why must I pour my heart into this team. This feels like the song I may sing if I ever leave for another team.
  7. Three Little Pigs- Green Jello: Great image of this song as the Sox let it slip away. “Well, I’m huffin’, I’m puffin’, I’ll blow your house in,” Playing as the Cubs keep scoring to take the lead.
  8. Lawyers, Guns, and Money- Warren Zevon: This was probably playing as both sides profit from the Crosstown series inside the stadium while the fans suffer but hey this game is now tied and exciting!
  9. Everybody Loves A Clown- Gary Lewis and The Playboys: Well as Sox fans we definitely love clowns because we keep cheering for a team that keeps losing.  The losing streak is at 13!

Thank you for joining us as we broke down the Cubs/Sox Crosstown Series through innings and music. Please leave some of your songs that you’d add to the Musical Innings Spin.
