CPG Reviews: Spider-Man 2

We, as a society, are 3 weeks removed from Spider-Man 2’s launch on PlayStation 5. Does it swing on its own two webs?

The answer is a resounding yes. Insomniac games roars back onto the PlayStation 5 utilizing the consoles potential for maximum Spider-Fun in a fantastic installment in their budding take on thr Marvel universe.

If you’re familiar with Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PlayStation 4, you’ll be right at home in Spider-Man 2. Fun and easy to use additions to combat and specials add increased fun to every enemy encounter. You’ll fiend for all the upgrades you progress through a rich and addictive story that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Spider-Man 2’s take on iconic on the Web-Head’s lore is refreshing. Not based on any one patocular comic run or universe, Insomniac’s Marvel universe feels like a fun new approach, instead of a rehash of an MCU project or blinding nostalgia of any universe of past. With several nods to a bigger universe and the impending debut of WOLVERINE from Insomniac Games, I cannot wait to see what other games develop out of this universe.

The villains of this game, Kraven the Hunter and Venom boast a huge challenge for Peter and Miles alike, and you as the player feel all the pressure as you make your way through symbiote hordes and legions of Kraven’s Hunters.

But no game is perfect. While most aspects of previous games seem expanded upon, the alternate suits being tied to level progression versus world exploration leaves an fun and challenging aspect of the previous titles lacking. Unfortunately once the main story is beat and New York returns to normal, it feels eerily empty giving way to the highly desired DLC that Insomniac has planned.

Overall Spider-Man 2 is the optimal superhero experience of this current console generation. A high contender for the best superhero video game ever made and a fun ride from start to finish.
