The Beginning and The Tracklist
I can remember it like it was yesterday, the Summer after my 8th grade graduation. Metallica had a new album being released. Until It Sleeps was the first single. Back then judgement towards bands didn’t come on as strong or at least it didn’t feel like it did. Here we are 28 years later ready to jump back in.
- Ain’t My B*tch- Never a big fan of the song. Always felt it sounded a bit generic for the start of a Metallica album.
- 2×4- Metallica by the way of blues. Kind of catchy…Kind of a miss.
- The House Jack Built- Switching the moods up which isn’t a bad thing. Personal favorite of the band being different.
- Until It Sleeps- When first released it stuck with me. Years later I see it’s forgetful qualities at times.
- King Nothing- Great 90’s Metallica jam. Jason Newsted’s bass brings it.
- Hero Of The Day- Like this song a lot more now then back then. When it picks up on the second half Lars Ulrich’s drums catapult it to the next level.
- Bleeding Me- Another standout track on the album. The vibe is different with lot’s of heavy mixed in-between. Great guitar by Kirk Hammett!
- Cure- Forgetful catchy guitar riff. Not a fan of James Hetfield’s vocal delivery.
- Poor Twisted Me- Metallica doing good by a little blues. Ok tune on a drowsy second half.
- Wasting My Hate- Sounds like a tune out of the practice room. this could be a good thing depending on how you look at it.
- Mama Said- Hated this tune upon release. Being a little more thoughtful, it fits the mood.
- Thorn Within- Sounds like a rehash of the whole album in one. Sounds like it could have been left off.
- Ronnie- Enough Metallica Blues at this point. Who ever wanted this much Blues in the band should have released a solo album instead.
- Outlaw Torn- To me the best track on Load. A 9- minute plus sprawling epic with great parts by everyone in the band. A good mix of everything they were trying to accomplish.
