WWE’s 2024 Clash At The Castle Breakdown

Match 1: Cody Rhodes (Undisputed WWE Champion)  VS AJ Styles

Notes: This match had quite a lot that any wrestling fan could ask for.  Immediate reaction on the internet put it at a 10/10.  This match had a completely different feel than the last match that they had at Backlash in France.  Rhodes seemed to step up his game to ensure that he wouldn’t be saying I quit.  Blood was shed by both men as they battled back and forth in and out of the ring.  By the end Styles just couldn’t take anymore as Rhodes entered the ring with the stairs used to enter.  Styles then uttered the word’s “I Quit” before Rhodes nailed him with the metal stairs retaining his Undisputed Championship!

Winner: Cody Rhodes retains the WWE Undisputed Championship

Match 2: WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship — Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill (c) vs. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn vs. Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark

Notes: For the good or the bad this wasn’t what i was expecting for this match.  Maybe because the end just came as such a surprise.  I don’t believe anybody had on their bingo card Belair and Cargill ending their reign so soon.  Maybe this lets both superstars enter back into the singles match circle.  Baszler works really hard, as she did in this match.  Just never seems to pan out for her.  Very cool to see the home crowd happy for the victory of Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn as they put on a great performance to earn the Women’s Tag Championship.

Winner: Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn are the new Women’s Tag Champions

Match 3: Sami Zayn (Intercontinental Champion) vs. Chad Gable

Notes: Love the entertaining work these two have been putting on Raw to build up to this match.  Otis and Maxxine Dupri just add to the, which way is this going to go nature of the storyline.  I love a good heel which Gable has started to perfect with his character.  The match was kind of predictable in nature but this doesn’t mean it still wasn’t fun.  This is the supposed end of the road for this feud, or is it?  The way Gable was shaking as he stared at Zayn who displayed another really good match defending his title.  It’s interesting to think who he may face next, if not Gable?

Winner: Sami Zayn stays the Intercontinental Champion

Match 4: Bayley (WWE Women’s Champion) vs. Piper Niven

Notes:  Another great opportunity to have a WWE star in Piper Niven being able to showcase her talent in front of her home country in Scotland.  Chelsea Green has been fun in the storyline. Bayley is a great champion who always put’s on solid matches.  This one felt like one of those.  I did not feel Niven was going to win based on Bayley barely having won the title.  But still the match was believable with both taking lot’s in a back in forth match with Chelsea sneaking back out with a Luchador Mask.  This distraction didn’t work. Bayley’s finisher was something I hadn’t seen often which she used to roll up for the win in an unsurprising fashionable win.

Winner: Bayley retains the WWE Women’s Championship

Match 5: Damian Priest (World Heavyweight Champion) vs. Drew McIntyre

Notes:  This was the match I was looking forward to the most on Clash of the Castle’s Card.  When a main event has a “Through the Barricade” scream, then it had to be at the very least an entertaining match.  Another awesome moment was watching the crowd’s excitement for McIntyre’s entrance.  During the match Priest delivered South Of Heaven to a no win avail.  This usually spells doom for a champion in a match not to land their finisher.  But then McIntyre’s Claymore also doesn’t land.  The match really leaves you guessing at who the victor would be.  The ending came with the classic ref being knocked out.  With a new one running in!  It’s CM Punk! Who cost’s McIntyre the championship with a low blow in front of the home crowd.  Priest drops South of Heaven and retains the title.  It was a very tough fought match with or without the CM Punk ending.

Winner: Damien Priest retains the World Heavyweight Championship
