Donovan released Season Of The Witch in 1966 on the Sunshine Superman album. A song that scares from the first guitar pluck played on a White Fender Telecaster all the way down to Donovan’s vocal delivery. The song’s lyrical content is dark and trippy with a dark foreboding of the times. With tracks in the late 60’s trying to put a positive spin on flower power, where as Season of The Witch looks a little deeper on the dark side. At just under five minutes, the track has a way of sticking onto your soul once the spin is complete.
Lana Del Rey scared up a good representation with her cover on the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark Soundtrack. In recent years I’ve heard it pop up everywhere from Pumpkin Patches to even the local Spirit Halloween. But for your next Halloween playlist make sure it scares near the top or you just may hear the Witch crackling instead.
